Counselling, Psychotherapy and EMDR
My formal qualification is a Diploma of Integrative Psychotherapy, which I obtained in 1991, and I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. I have been working in clinical practice for 17 years, much of which has been as part of the Primary Health Care Team in GP surgeries, and I have a private practice. I work with most psychological and emotional difficulties but we can discuss on the phone or at initial consultation whether what I offer is suitable for you.
My approach is holistic (i.e. seeing body and mind as different but equally important aspects of the same whole) and integrative (i.e. my practice incorporates those elements that I believe to be essential to all good psychotherapy, regardless of theoretical background, and I design and adapt my interventions in relation to the needs of each individual client rather than applying a particular model to all clients).
In 2006 I trained in EMDR which is in itself a holistic and integrative psychotherapeutic method and so I can incorporate it when I think it will be helpful. It is a powerful and efficient psychological treatment which has been demonstrated by research to benefit people suffering from trauma arising from experiences as diverse as accidents, war, childhood abuse or neglect. It can also be used to address other difficulties such as eating disorders, low self-esteem, panic attacks, phobias, pain, prolonged grief and unexplained physical complaints.
Please contact me by phone or email for further information or to arrange an initial consultation.
