Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing practiced in China and the Far East for at least 2,500 years.
It is considered that by inserting fine needles at specific points on the body's surface, the flow of energy in the body can be influenced.
This flow of energy can become disrupted (and thereby cause illness), due to many factors, such as emotional states, trauma, stress, poor nutrition, infections etc. Essentially the needles influence the body's energy states and stimulate our healing mechanisms when they become overwhelmed.
Since acupuncture is looking beyond the immediate symptoms of an
illness and instead to the underlying energy state, there is the
potential to help a very wide range of conditions; basically any
condition where the body (with a little help) can mobilize its own
healing resources.
Problems that can be helped with acupuncture:
Many
forms of pain, such as musculo-skeletal pain, back pain, arthritis,
headaches and sinusitis can be treated. Problems that effect digestion
and the bowel,( for example IBS), urinary symptoms (e.g. cystitis), and
period problems of many kinds can be influenced (including PMT and
irregular or painful periods) as well as infertility in men and women.
Respiratory conditions, like asthma can be
treated, as well as the earlier stages of shingles.
Acupuncture is commonly used to assist the body regain better health
during times of stress and where there is low energy and general
debility following illness and in post-viral states like ME.
